In times of the worst pandemic hit, natural calamities, social unrest and whatnot, I'm glad to share a piece of good news with all of you, especially to those who are particularly concerned about global temperature rise, CO2 emissions etc.
It is a Cessna 208 Caravan, which is retrofitted with an electric engine by MagniX.
MagniX is an electric motor manufacturer for electric aircraft, wholly owned by Singapore investor Clermont Group.
It flew for 20-30 minutes over Washington state in the USA on Thursday 28- May.
Here is a video of the flight for you.
POLLUTION AND AVIATION
Aviation is one of the fastest-growing sources of carbon emission.
According to WWF, unregulated carbon pollution from aviation is the fastest-growing source of greenhouse gas emissions.
And if the sector solely relies on conventional fuels, by 2050, emissions would be triple of what they are now.
2% The global aviation industry produces around 2% of all human-induces carbon dioxide emissions.
12% Aviation is responsible for 12% of the CO2 emissions from all transport sources, compared to 74% of that of road transport.

According to CNBC reports, such planes will require much lesser maintenance and the overall cost of flight per hour.

About The e-Caravan Plane
This e-Caravan plane can carry 9 passengers, at a cruising speed of 183km/h (114mph).
MagniX hopes that the aircraft could enter commercial activities by the end of 2021 and have a range of 100 miles.
The plane is fitted with magni500 motor.
The aviation industry is heavily regulated to ensure safety but MagniX hopes that by retrofitting an existing plane the certification process can be accelerated.
According to CNBC reports, such planes will require much lesser maintenance and the overall cost of flight per hour.
Roei Ganzarski, The CEO of MagniX
Roei Ganzarski, said "current aeroplanes are both expensive and very-polluting. Electric planes will have a 40%-70% lower cost to operate per flight hour." He added, "that means operators will be able to fly more planes into smaller airports, meaning a shorter and door-to-door experience, with no harm of CO2 emissions."
LIMITATIONS
According to MagniX, the company believed all flights of less than 1000 miles will be completely electric in the period of coming 15 years.
However, for large distance flight, the main issue is battery density, as aerodynamics and weight are among the major factors in air-plane designing.
Though, after the first electric plane flight, battery companies are working towards aerospace-ready battery solutions.
Conclusion
Making the Aviation sector eco-friendly is an important step for meeting the 2015 Paris Agreement's goal of limiting the increase in global temperatures to below 2-degree celsius.
